Our Year 11 Economics class have been learning about the dizzying highs and devastating lows of the stock market this term with the ASX Share Market Game.
The ASX Share Market Game gives wannabe investors the chance to invest $50 000 imaginary dollars in shares from over 300 companies listed on the ASX. Prices are live and the punters are charged brokerage on each transaction.
The class split into four teams in an effort to create the best performing portfolio. Although the class were given trends and hot tips by the game, they also had to do their own research on their investments
The portfolios have fluctuated over the weeks, with some teams up one week and down the next. So far there has been no clear frontrunner in the competition.
“I think once the students didn’t make millions of dollars, they lost a little bit of interest,” Economics teacher Kara Sergi admits, “They definitely learned that the stock market isn’t as easy or straight forward as they thought is was going to be.”
The students will take a brief break from the game to prepare for their upcoming Year 11 exams and return to the task in term 4.
