Year 7 Experiment With Tie Dye

Year 7 Tie Dye

Our Year 7 Technology Mandatory students have been experimenting with some psychedelic designs through tie dye.

The students twisted and banded canvas before leaving it bathe in red and blue dyes overnight. After untying and unfurling the bundles, they were treated to all manner of groovy patterns.

The class have also been learning their way around the sewing machines. They’ve been learning how to correctly thread the devices and how to switch between stitches.

“Textiles is one of the few subjects that doesn’t involve screens,” explains Textiles teacher Rebecca Chapman, “Sewing is great for teaching patience. It also gets students thinking about the work that goes into the textiles they make every day. Who knows? It might even inspire them to try and make something themselves at home.”

The class will work towards sewing their own pencil cases in the coming weeks.
