Year 10 got a taste of life as business owners for Australian Business Week.
The students were charged with setting up and running a sustainability business this year. The aspiring businessmen and women had to build a company from the ground up, handle the marketing and deal with share price fluctuations for the whole year group competition.
The students’ hard work culminated today when they had to pitch their product to a panel of experts in an oral presentation, air a 30 second advertisement in front of their peers and run a stand in the hall to generate buzz for their product.
There were also some welcome distractions throughout the comp to help the students come together as a team like the 3 on 3 basketball comp on Thursday, the egg and spoon race on Tuesday and the tug-o-war on Monday.
“Year 10 have been excellent this week,” exclaims competition coordinator Robina Ingham, “It really brought them together as a year group. They had to collaborate with students who they might not otherwise have interacted through their junior schooling and made new friendships.”
“They were having so much fun that I don’t even think they realised they were learning,” Ms Ingham adds.
Splashy Solutions ultimately won the competition with their wearable towel. Thank you to all our staff mentors for their patience and guidance and to Robina Ingham for organising this Herculean event.
