Last Friday our open league tag girls faced off against some of Riverina's best at Paramore Park in Wagga Wagga.
There were 12 teams from across the Riverina and the Wade girls faced off against three of them. The first match saw the girls paired against the toughest team in the comp – Kildare Catholic College. Kildare were the favourites of the day and have won the comp multiple times in recent years.
Kildare scored first, but our girls managed to hold the lines through the first half, containing the Catholic College 4 – nil. Kildare scored a series of tries in quick succession in the second half, ultimately besting Wade 12 – 4.
Tumbarumba were the second pairing of the day. This was a welcome opportunity for the girls to revise their strategy and come together as a team. The girls managed to pull together and land an 8 – nil win.
The final match of the day was Xavier Catholic College. It was a close one, with the score remaining nil all at half time. Eventually, Tess Jamieson managed to break through the try line. This try was then converted by Armanhi Coe, who pushed through a quad strain for the kick. Wade won the match 6 – nil.
Tess Jamieson notable scored the first try of each match. On defence, Jorja Shaeffer and Yasmin Ings demonstrated their proficiency at chasing down tries.
The match was somewhat bittersweet for Wade, as it marks the end of an era for our League Tag team. For four of our Year 12 players: Jorja Schaeffer, Lara Simcoe, Tayla Javens and Paige Sergi it will be the last time they will represent the school. Well done girls!
“We were really proud of how the girls came together,” recounts team manager Jessy McRae, “The senior girls set a great example for the juniors. They really focused on the positives and played each match to the final horn.”
Thank you to our coach Minata Misi for guiding the girls and to our bus driver Ken Towning.
