Wade managed to take out yesterday’s Country Cup, beating an extremely well disciplined Yanco team for first place.
The day opened with a 18 – 12 win against Narrandera High School. Any wind in the boys sails was quickly knocked out by a 14-6 loss to Yanco Ag. The team managed to keep their heads and pull together for a 8 - 4 win against MRHS – Griffith before thrashing Marian 34 – 0. It was this final win that put Wade into first place in the comp by 4 points.
Xavier Favero was the lead try scorer for Wade with 4 tries. His most impressive try saw him run the length of the field, around, through and over the top of the opposition. Justice Baldwin’s precision conversion kicking also proved essential to a victory where every point counted. Codie Harnett was also praised for finishing off a great team try in a tight match against age old rivals Griffith.
“The boys played with plents of heart and never gave up,” exclaims coach Daniel Bozic, “We lost two key players due to injuries but everyone stepped up and took on new roles to do what the team needed. We learnt from our mistakes and showed a strong ability to adapt to new teams and tactics.”
“As their coach,” adds Mr Bozic, “I was particularly proud of how they responded to the loss to Yanco by coming out firing against Griffith and winning a tight arm-wrestle of a match.”
Wade will now move on to take on new challengers in Wagga in the coming weeks.
