Child Studies Develop Exciting New Toys for Young Minds
20 Jun 2025
Year 10 Child Studies have been connecting with their inner child this term. Their task was to create a toy to entertain and educate young minds.
The class were challenged to create a toy for children aged 0 – 5. Among the myriad of submissions was a felt breakfast set, a shape sorter, a toy drum, a sensory blanket and a hand crocheted bunny rabbit.
The task had to be submitted with a portfolio and was designed to mimic the steps, processes and expectations of the HSC. The students were marked on their planning, the toy’s adherence to safety standards and the sustainability of the product.
“The assessment is about learning what is suitable and safe for babies and young children to play with,” explains Child Studies teacher Jessy McRae, “It runs home the importance of play in a child’s development.”
The class will continue their study of play and the developing child into next term, where they will visit Griffith East Preschool for an afternoon.
