Our captains spent a couple of days rubbing shoulders with MPs and the NSW Governor at the Secondary Student Leadership program in Sydney last week.
Captains Ali Zada and Abby Hyder coincidentally started their trip on Wednesday afternoon on the same flight as our local MP Helen Dalton, who was happy to talk about the modern political landscape.
Upon arriving in Sydney and spending the evening in a hotel, they were whisked away on a tour of the NSW Parliament on Thursday morning. They viewed question time in both the legislative assembly and the council and got to speak to politicians like the honourable Kate Washington MP.
They then went over to Government House for an audience with Governor of NSW Her Excellency Margaret Beazley. There, they learned about the essential duties of the governor.
“Meeting the MPs was a big deal for Abby and Ali,” explains Student Leadership Team supervisor Matt Ingles, “But meeting the Governor was particularly special for them, I don’t think they realised all of the important work that she does.”
“Hopefully this inspires them to continue their leadership journey in future, whether in politics or in other fields,” adds Mr Ingles.
