Year 10 Child Studies have submitted their latest assessments this week. The output has been amazing!
Tasked with creating an educational toy for children, the students set about creating all manner of marvellous playthings. Ruby’s breakfast playset that she sewed herself was a stand out among the crowd. “It teaches children about cooking and engages their creativity as well because they get to make their own little breakfast.” explains Ruby, “It also teaches hand eye co-ordination. I made this because I would like it if I was a kid.”
Teagan’s fish playset was also particularly inspired. “It’s a toy that helps kids identify colour and helps develop memory. Basically, you’ll show the kids a card and the children have to remake the pattern shown.” When asked the inspiration behind her toy, Teagan replied “I made the toy because as a kid I liked things under the ocean and colours.”
The students also had to submit a design portfolio, sketches and a rationale along with their finished work. They were targeting some of the major developmental milestones with their projects like sensory play, fine motor skills, language and introductory numeracy and literacy. “The unit was learning about how children engage in play,” explains teacher Kate Millson, “and the class came out with a very impressive, unique array toys.”
