Wade Progress to Next Round of Buckley Shield

Wade Progress Buckley Shield

Last Thursday on Leeton’s Number One Oval our MRHS - Wade under 14s fought schools from across the zone for an opportunity to progress to the next round of the Buckley Shield.

The first official game against Griffith was a wash out. Griffith were strong out of the gate with Wade down 18 – nil minutes before half time. Wade, however, managed to stage a sneaky try just before half time which put a bit of a scare into their rivals.

This tension carried over into the second half of the match until Griffith eventually ran away with the win. The final score was 26 – 16.

Wade were then paired with Yanco Ag, who ironically had previously beaten Griffith earlier in the day. Because of the draw, Wade had to beat Yanco by 10 or more to progress in the league. Wade ended up leading Yanco 18 – 8 with only minutes to go when Jax Favero scored an 80 meter try on the siren.

“I put it to the boys at the start of the day and said if we hold the ball and minimize our mistakes we can win this knockout,” recounts coach Adam McCann, “With the game on the line the boys dug deep and come out on top

“We have plenty of work to do if we want to succeed further in the competition,” warned coach McCann, “But I have belief the boys can do it.“

The boys will now move on to play a team from the South Coast pool later this term.
