Open Girls and Open Boys Soccer Move to Next Round in CHS Comp

Open Soccer

Today was a big day for Wade soccer with both our open boys and girls teams winning their home game matches in the CHS comp.

Our open boys played the first match of the day against Leeton High at 10.30am.  Leeton were swift out of the gate scoring a goal in the first minutes of the game. Wade were shocked into action with Lucas Signor and Ali Ali Zada putting pressure on the midfield. Their hard work paid off with Wade ending the first half up 2-1.

Wade continued to dominate in the second half, with Ashton Menegazzo managing to score two goals. Wade ended up winning the match 5-1.

“Wade played well together and showed a lot of commitment as a team,” explains coach Martin Maley, “Every player contributed to a solid victory over Leeton.”

Our open girls team also got off to a bad start in their match, with Narrandera managing to get an early goal. Our relatively inexperienced girls managed to learn on the job, levelling the playing field 1 – 1 by half time. Wade really found their footing in the second half and managed to come together as a team. They ended up winning the game 3-1.

Quiet achiever Grace Bertoldo held back the Narrandera strikers throughout the match while Abby Farrell secured the backline and guided the younger players. Chelsea Carter, who had never played soccer before in her life ,turned out to be a natural both in offence and defence. By all accounts she played the game like a seasoned professional.

“For a team of mixed age and experience, they really performed well when they worked together,” exclaims coach Sofia Zappala, “I can’t wait to see what the rest of the comp holds for them.”

The girls team will move on to play a gala day in Wagga next week while our boys team will play the semi finals against Deniliquin the week after.
