Last Friday, our open boys CHS cricket team narrowly missed out playing the Riverina Finals after a defeat at the hands of Corowa.
After winning the toss, Corowa’s batsmen set the pace for the match. The opening partnership were particularly strong, but after a break for water, Wade started to make some inroads. The pick of our bowlers was co-captain Liam James, who took 3 for 18. This allowed Ted Files to then rip through the middle order, making 3 for 10. They were aided in no small part by extremely committed fielders.
Wyatt Carter opened the batting with 50 runs before being bowled. Bede Kenny ably supported Wyatt in a 47-run partnership. Unfortunately, Wade came up 6 runs short, ending the match with a score of 102.
“Wade performed well this year,” explains teacher Martin Maley, “Our younger players showed some promise for coming years. Congratulations to Wyatt Carter, who was named man of the match by both schools.”
Well done to our cricketers who will now bow out of the season. It was an admirable effort against Corowa who have regularly taken out the Riverina finals over the past few years.
