Gabi Cirillo Qualifies for SHAPE 2025

Gabi Cirillo

Year 12 Industrial Technology student Gabi Cirillo’s efforts paid off this week when she was invited to exhibit her major work at the renowned Shape 2025.

Shape is an exhibition featuring a selection of the state’s best HSC major projects from Design and Technology, Industrial Technology and Textiles and Design. The offer to exhibit is extended only to the best major works in New South Wales.

Her work, a gravity clock, was built using stainless steel, brass and bronze. The centrepiece is a wooden clock face with copper hands. It has been described as a skeletal take on the classic grandfather clock.

“I was inspired by Jessica Parker, who made a gear safe a couple of years ago,” Gabby recounts, “Because she was able to make something intricate like that, it gave me hope that I would be able to make something like a clock.”

“She certainly worked hard,” explains Design and Technology teacher Scott Dollin, “She was in on holidays and free periods chipping away on it. There’s a lot of problem solving in metalwork, but Gabi’s persistence helped her get over the line. She definitely didn’t take the easy path.”

“It’s a huge deal qualifying for SHAPE,” Mr Dollin continues, “They picked only two metalwork projects across the state.”

You can see Gabi’s amazing work at Pier 2/3 Walsh Bay Arts Precinct between 17 March and 12 April 2025.
