A selection of Wade netball fanatics got the rare opportunity to speak to members of the Giants Netball team this afternoon in the library.
The Giants players walked the girls through their journey from high school netball to the professional leagues. They told the audience about the hard work they must put into the sport, overcoming injury and setbacks and the balance between work, study and netball that is key to their success.
The meet and greet was a boon for our own young netballers who managed to compete at a state level last year. The players were no doubt excited to glean any scraps of advice that could contribute to their continued success this year.
“Don’t be afraid to try,” Maddie Hay advised the girls, “You need to put things on hold and give your all to something. You need to know you’ve tried your hardest.”
“I was late to netball and someone advised me that delaying is not denial,” adds Jamie Podmore-Taylor, “Just because you don’t get something immediately, doesn’t mean you won’t get it eventually. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”
The Giants will play tonight and then again on Sunday at the Griffith Regional Sports Centre. Tickets for the matches are available here.
