Year 12 Chemistry have been practicing their titration skills for their unit on acids, bases and equilibrium.
Titration is a technique used to determine the concentration of a chemical in a solution. The students performed titrations on orange juice to measure the concentration of citric acid, vinegar to measure the concentration of acetic acid and on painkillers to measure the concentration of acetylsalicylic acid.
“Titrations are important for regulation,” explains Chemistry teacher Kenneth Magodi, “They are essential in fields like medicine and food science to determine safe and effective concentrations of chemicals.”
The class will move on from acids, bases and equilibrium to organic chemistry early next term.
