Wade Dancers Perform at AMS Reconciliation Celebration

AMS Reconciliation Week

Today we had our Yirra Miya Dancers and Janet Tuialii perform at the Aboriginal Medical Service’s National Reconciliation Week event.

The free event included art, children’s activities and stands full of free goodies for attendees. Fire and Rescue even brought a fire truck and there was a free barbecue lunch. Our students however, stole the show with Yirra Miya performing a traditional welcome dance and Janet performing a beautiful Samoan dance.

National Reconciliation Week is held every year from 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.

The theme for this year’s National Reconciliation Week, Bridging Now to Next, urges Australians to look ahead and push forward using past lessons as a guide. It reminds us that Australia’s history of reconciliation is not a linear one. It contains huge strides and massive setbacks.

Well done to our dancers and thank you to the AMS for putting on such a great day!
