Wade put in a strong effort at the open boys basketball knockout in Narrandera yesterday, placing fourth in the comp.
The team dominated their first game against RAP winning by a cool 58 points. The match was fast transition basketball. It was a good warm up where everyone got a good run.
The second match against Narrandera was a more humbling affair, however. Narrandera, who eventually won the day, pitched a strong team full of large players. Though they got off to an early lead, captain Will Vaessan commanded a comeback in the fourth quarter, inspiring Jai Menegazzo to score a jaw dropping five 3 point shots. Despite their best efforts, Narrandera bested Wade by a measly 4 points.
After missing out on the finals, Wade played off against Leeton for third place in a low stakes, friendly game of basketball. Wade lost this match by two points, locking them in fourth place for the day.
“Will and Jai had a great run for their final year playing for Wade,” explains coach Dave Jacobs, “Josh Gee also played well all day, bringing his experience from Riverina Reps to the court.”
“This year we fielded a young side with the majority of the team in Year 10 and 11,” Mr Jacobs adds, “Next year, we should have a stronger run at making it out of zone.”
Well done boys. Better luck next year!
