Our 2023 lambs had their first shear at the hands of Wyatt and his friends from Year 9 Agriculture.
The task fits in perfectly with the Year 9 curriculum, which is Lamb Production. Shearing the lambs in autumn before the cold weather hits helps the young sheep to put on weight and encourages the growth of a fresh coat of wool over the winter.
“The boys did a good job on the sheep,” explains Agriculture teacher and ryebuck shearer Mark Duncan, “It’s great to give the kids some hands-on experience. They had no problem rolling up their sleeves and getting in there.”
