AFL Under 15s Play Gala Day in Leeton

AFL Under 15s

Our AFL under 15s girls and boys team went to Leeton to play the first round of the CHS comp last Thursday.

The boys were first paired up with Temora, who dominated the match. Wade ended up suffering a sizable defeat. The tables were turned soon after, with Wade beating Rural Access Program convincingly.

Angus Duncan made his grand return to the sport after a couple of years off and his work in the ruck stole the show. Skipper Archer Vaessen lead from the middle, contributing a lot of chat to the ground. Meanwhile, Josh Turner’s efforts managed to chalk six goals to Wade’s final tally.

“The boys played in high spirits,” explains coach Riley Holland, “They took on much larger opponents from Temora with enthusiasm and were humble in victory against RAP.”

Across the ground, the girls managed to pull a big win against RAP and an admirable 24 – 7 win against Narrandera. Once again, Wade met their match when faced with Temora in the final. Playing on the big field, our girls ended up overwhelmed and bogged down in the middle. They lost 6 – 1.

Captain Ellie Matthews made some (literally) bone crushing tackles and Tess Jamieson demonstrated a great talent for kicking goals. Maya Bunn, though the smallest on the field, showed great courage, marking some of the biggest girls in the tournament.

“Wade didn’t give up until the final siren of the day,” explains coach Daniel Bozic, “They played with a lot of intensity and showed some great sportsmanship.”

Though both our teams played their best, this will be the end of the line for them this season. Well done to our players and coaches
