Year 8 Science Explore the Moon

Lunar Photos

Year 8 Science have been exploring the moon in all its beauty, with Ms Murwood’s class modelling a solar eclipse and Mr Ingle’s class recreating the phases of the moon using Oreos.

Mrs Murwood’s class used Styrofoam balls and torches to demonstrate a lunar eclipse. The phenomenon occurs when the moon’s orbit coincides with the position of the sun, blocking out the star’s rays for a moment.

Meanwhile, Mr Ingle’s class produced a delicious recreation of the various phases of the lunar cycle with Oreos. The contrast between the white fillings and the black cookie base allowed students to scrape off the icing to represent the waxing and waning of the moon.

The classes will now move on to study anatomy and the way different body systems function and interact.
