The Wade open boys cricket team played their first match of the season against Narrandera High School on Friday.
After two forfeit rounds, it was a surprisingly high stakes game with the winner moving on to play the Riverina Semi Finals. Wade luckily had the home ground advantage.
Our boys bat first and set a very competitive total of 160. Nate Sergi notably made 35 and Owen Robinson made 32. The boys took 9 wickets bowling. Wyatt Carter took 2 for 20 and Javier Bruce, Fletcher Kelly and Owen Robinson got one wicket each.
It was Narrandera player Archer Quinn who tipped the balance of the game. Quinn took 3 for 28 bowling and was unbeaten on 99 while batting, guiding the team to a tight victory of 9/161.
“Wade performed well, particularly in batting. They also had some fine moments of fielding including three runouts,” recounts team coach Martin Maley, “They were overcome, however, by Archer’s outstanding performance.”
The match was the end of the line for the Wade open boys team. Narrandera will now have to wait until Term 4 to play the semi-finals as the season pauses until Summer.
