The Year 12 SLR (Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation) completed an orienteering assessment earlier this month on Scenic Hill.
The groups of two to three orienteers braved the wilderness with compasses and maps to locate 10 markers. At each orienteering marker there was a question that needed to be answered relevant to the SLR curriculum.
The students scored 1 point for each marker discovered and 1 point for each question correctly answered. The class were then required to sit a formal written component of the assessment.
“Orienteering is a great skill to have for anyone in our society,” explains SLR Mr Jacobs, “You’re not always going be able to get Google Maps on your phone when you’re out bushwalking.”
SLR teaches students the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle and encourages lifelong commitment to being physically active and to achieving movement potential.
