Year 12 Hospitality Complete Work Experience

Year 12 Work Experience

This term our Year 12 Hospitality students went out into the world to get a taste of the industry. The students worked shifts in bakeries, cafes and restaurants across Griffith.

Work experience is a mandatory component of the Certificate II of Hospitality and gives aspiring hospitality workers an insight into the realities of preparing food for large groups of people. The class were expected to complete regular shifts and perform food preparation and cleaning tasks to the best of their ability.

The range of venues the students worked at varied greatly from small businesses to multinational franchises. The prospective cooks enjoyed the work overall but were surprised by the scale and quantity of food that they had to prepare.

“The students impressed with their skills,” explained hospitality teacher Kathy Gee, “And the training that they are they are doing at Wade put them in good stead in the workplace environment.”

One student, Samuel Portelli, even managed to impress his bosses at Giuseppe’s so much that he was offered an apprenticeship starting next year. And although not of all of our students managed to walk away so lucky, their work ethic, initiative and capability was certainly praised by their employers. Well done Year 12!
