Wade and Griffith fought hard on the soccer field last Wednesday in their second match as separate schools. Despite Griffith putting up a good fight however, Wade still managed to take the day.
Wade started the match as the more organised team and moved the ball around effectively in the first half. Making the most of their home ground advantage, Griffith adopted a defensive strategy to save a repeat of last year’s crushing victory against their sister school. The defence no doubt frustrated the Wade players who were expecting an easy win. Wade’s persistence, however, saw them get to half time with a three-goal lead.
Griffith got a little bolder with their offence in the second half of the match managing to slip a goal past our boys’ defence. An own goal by Wade brought the game uncomfortably close for the traditionally strong soccer school. Fortunately, Wade managed to seal their victory with one final goal, finishing the game up 4-2.
Co-captains Lucas Signor and Ali Zada dominated possession and play in the middle third of the field, both managing to score goals. Luke Wood’s relentless offence in the first half and solid defence in the second half was also crucial to Wade’s victory.
"The MRHS - Wade team showed some quality in possession and attack,” explains Coach Martin Maley, “And although we were a little inconsistent at times, we should be able to build on this first game as we move forward."
Wade will now move onto play at the Leeton Gala day in late Term 1.
